ONLINE 2021
FRI 28th MAY @9pm to SUN 30th MAY
To explore and celebrate our natural, sustainable and abundant local resources, Nettle being particularly notable for its environmental uses as well as it being highly nutritious and having numerous other applications.
To hold anonline event that is community minded to enable us all to come together to support each other, share skills and strengthen our links to create a real local web that supports happy, healthy, creative lives of the individuals in it. Whilst promoting a genuine local economy.
I have split the weekend into hour slots and then see how many we can fill. We talking workshops/talks demonstrations mainly but a discussion type format may work also. Thanks to everyone who has already offered their time, I am up for doing a couple of workshop/talks, we also have some pre-recorded resources we could use.....and no before anyone asks I will not be breaking out the Nettle rap!
It would be good to have an online resource point we have the Nettle files section on here we can use but we also use social media to collect information.
I will put the time slots in the discussion and then people can grab a slot, please contact us!! the slots are an hour long on your choosen platform, which we can link to from here. We have also had the kind offer of being able to put things out through the Nettles for textiles group on here, I will contact people who have already said they would like to be involved to confirm their envolvement.
I would like to open the festival on the Friday night where I will do a live reading of the Nettle Epoch part 1....a curious story I happened to find disgarded in a bus shelter!
Any feedback/help/comments/ideas would be most appreciated

NEWS ALERT - Due to a change in personal circumstances for the organisers, we have changed the name of the Network and are having a slight shift in our focus to more nationwide activities, with immediate effect. Full details are set out in the 'Who We Are' section of this website.
Unfortunately this means we have had to withdraw from formal responsibility for the maintenance of the Community Garden at Bleakhouse Library, but we still hope to do some informal gardening sessions there when we can.
Details of our activities throughout the country will continue to be posted here on this website.

MEETING RE COMMUNITY HOUSING - August 2nd, 6.30-8.30pm.
The New Economics Foundation and Birmingham Impact Hub will be hosting a discussion on Birmingham’s housing crisis and how residents might solve this together through community housing – which has already provided affordable, resident controlled, sustainable homes from London to Cornwall.
This will be a participatory, welcoming meeting which won’t just be a talking shop – we’ll end the event by forming a group of those who want to take the idea forward. If you’re passionate about tackling the housing crisis in a community led, genuinely innovative way, we want to see you there!

Sow We Begin!
This is the start of the Permaculture plan...
We will begin with observation of the site and so will be having a walk around and getting familiar with the garden for example- soil, aspect, water flow, plotting the existing plants and chatting about development ideas.
It is a community space and so we are really keen to hear what people would like to see in the garden and what they would like to use it for as it is intended to be used as a growing and social space for the community to access...Inclusive to ALL.
We have an online base map that people can download and plan on base_map_-_bleakhouse.jpg
We will record all our planning, research and resources online and also create a hard copy that can be accessed in the library.
Cake and drinks provided

We would also like to invite people to pop down and adopt a tomato plant! There is no greenhouse onsite and so we would love to plant some up in pots on the day and ask people to give them a home to them bring back and plant up in the garden later in the season.

PLANNING MEETING FOR THE C.O.E FOOD BUYING GROUP-
SATURDAY 6/2/16 @ 1PM
CENTRE OF THE EARTH,
42 NORMAN ST,
WINSON GREEN,
B18 7EP
We are developing a food buying group at Centre of the Earth and would like to invite potential members and suppliers (groups or individual growers/producers) to come along to chat about how this would work.
We want to create a system that will provide clean, ethical, reasonably priced food / houshold sundries/ bodycare products and support local producers with the idea of eventually sourcing everthing locally having the knock on effect of creating a stable local economy that works and supports everyone.
This also feeds into the shop we are also developing at COE
Please spread the word to anyone you think might be interested

NETTLEFEST PITCH @ BIRMINGHAM SOUP 18/2/16 7PM
I am very excited to announce that we have been choosen to pitch #Nettlefest at the next Birmingham Soup event...if we are sucessful it will mean we have funds to pay a small fee to people who provide workshops/talks and also pay for volunteers travel expenses....
Soup Birmingham is made up of a group of 16 volunteers who have a desire to make positive change for their local community.
The event itself gives residents the opportunity to learn about projects happening in Birmingham and vote on the project that they believe is the best benefit to the community. It feeds the needs of small enterprises who require help and guidance and gives them the opportunity to pitch for micro-funding, share their project ideas and network with like-minded people.
Anyone can attend the event which is on Thursday 18th Feb at 7pm at the Impact Hub in Digbeth...if you are able to come along and show your support it would be greatly appreciated
For more info on what Soup do and details on the event itself please see the links below

The show is based around the Permaculture ethics of Earthcare, Peoplecare and Fairshares. The intention of the show is to provide practical, useful information- to inspire people and create discussion. We cover a myriad of topics and often have guests on to chat, promote their projects and talk about the work they do. It is an informal show on Darkcity Radio, a non corporate independent internet radio station. Anyone can join in through skype or calling in by phone...please feel free to join all are welcome.

NETTLEFEST II - the second sting, Sunday 6th july 2014 11am-4pm
The return of Nettlefest and this year we are hoping to making it bigger and better than last year, there are two main reasons for this event:
1) To explore and celebrate our natural, sustainable and abundant local resources, Nettle being particularly notable for its environmental uses as well as it being highly nutritious and having numerous other applications.
2) To hold an event that is community based to enable us all to come together to support each other, share skills and strengthen our links to create a real local web that supports happy, healthy, creative lives of the individuals in it. Whilst promoting a genuine local economy and We shall have our Nettle stall with all the Nettle products we have produced so far and copies of our Nettle Files.
We will also hold a Nettle talk at some point through the day. There will also be the other resources we have as a Permaculture group including our free local Seedbank.
We are also planning other talks and workshops, kids activities, stalls for people to sell produce/crafts they have made, music and refreshments. You can also find out more about Salop drive and ideal for all who run the site and all the wonderful work they do...in fact Salop drive is just a beautiful space to come and look around an chill in!
WE NEED YOU!!
This is an event by the people and for the people,so to make it a proper community event we would love to hear from anyone who would like to get involved in any way...by giving a talk, holding a workshop, having a stall or getting involved in the kids activities. If you have any other ideas please feel free to suggest them to us!
Please help spread the word and pass on to anyone you think might be interested
